Il Carbonaione is a benchmark single-vineyard Sangiovese, made entirely from one of Chianti Classico's most historic plots: a hillside above Greve in Chianti, on the Ruffoli slopes of Poggio Scalette, planted with old massal-selection Sangiovese from the Lamole area. Vittorio Fiore, one of Tuscany's most respected winemaking consultants, founded the estate in 1991 and built this wine to show pure, site-driven Sangiovese, bottled as Alta Valle della Greve IGT. The 2013 was a classic Tuscan vintage with good structure and freshness; with a decade-plus of age it's entering a lovely mature phase. Decant and drink over the next several years.
