The Produttori del Barbaresco's straight Barbaresco is one of the great values in all of fine wine, and the 2016 is a vintage worth seeking out: a classic, balanced year across Piedmont that gave Nebbiolo with vivid freshness, ripe-but-firm tannins and excellent aging potential. Blended across the co-op's many top holdings, this is traditional Barbaresco, rose, tar and red cherry, from one of the region's most respected addresses. The structure here means it's just hitting its stride and will reward several more years in the cellar, though a good decant unlocks plenty now. A benchmark introduction to the grape and a wine to buy by the case. Hard to do better for the money.
