Produttori del Barbaresco is one of the great arguments for cooperative winemaking on earth: 50-some growers pooling fruit from Barbaresco's best hillsides, with single-vineyard Riservas bottled only in the strongest vintages. Asili is the perfumed aristocrat of the lineup, all floral lift and red-fruited finesse rather than brawn. This 2004 comes from a classic, structured vintage and is now drinking in a lovely mature window, its Nebbiolo tannins softened and its aromatics opening into dried rose, tea and forest floor. From a private collection, so expect bottle variation typical of older wines. No need to wait on this one.
