Fifty-one years in the bottle, from one of the earliest single-cru Riservas the Produttori del Barbaresco ever released. The co-op only began bottling individual crus with the 1967 vintage (five originals), and Rabajà entered the program with the 1970 vintage — making this 1974 one of the earliest 1970s releases of what is now one of their most coveted bottlings. The vintage was modest by Piedmont standards, but five-plus decades of cellar age have done their slow alchemy: tannins long resolved, fruit dried to potpourri and orange peel, the structure now ghostly and savory. A fragile museum piece from the most important cooperative in Italy.

Perfect Pairings

Treat as a fragile artifact: brodo and tajarin, a sliver of aged Castelmagno, slow-roasted capon, or simply a quiet glass with bread and a soft cheese. Nothing assertive.

Tasting Profile

Ghostly and tertiary. Dried rose, potpourri, orange peel, sweet tobacco, forest floor, dried cherry skin. Tannins fully resolved; the wine is now perfume and savor. Fragile finish.
