A summertime staple at Flatiron: a mineral-driven Alvarinho blend from the top tier of Vinho Verde. Quinta do Regueiro is a small, family-owned estate in Monção, a hilly subregion at Portugal's northern edge bordering Spain's Galicia, where the hills block the rain and the slightly warmer, drier climate lets Alvarinho reach full ripeness. The Monção e Melgaço subregion is famed for Alvarinho, qualitatively a big step up from the Loureiro-dominant blends found elsewhere in Vinho Verde. Here Alvarinho is rounded out with Trajadura, grown on steep, granite-strewn soils that lend savory, smoky minerality, with salinity carried in on the sea breezes. Dynamic, complex and refreshingly bright, this is everything good Vinho Verde should be.
