Rijckaert has holdings in Burgundy and the Jura, and they focus almost exclusively on two grapes: Chardonnay and Savagnin. We were impressed by the intense minerality of this wine, coupled with the richness of fruit and complexity of structure. From organically-farmed vines on classic blue marl soils, this is fresh and clean (there's definitely Burgundian influence here), with yellow-hued fruit (pear, lemon) and lots of salinity.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"The 2022 Savagnin Arbois Grand Élevage Vieilles Vignes offers ripe yellow apple, lemon flesh and discrete cedar on the nose. Built around lively acidity, the medium-bodied 2022 maintains spot-on balance and offers lovely tension on the clear-cut finale." —Nicolas Greinacher

Wine Enthusiast

91 points

"From old vines, this Savagnin is fruity while also dense. It has a bite of almonds and zesty acidity. That is allied to young fruitiness so the wine needs to age further." —Roger Voss

More about Rijckaert

Jean Rijckaert spent a decade as technical director for the negociant Verget before launching his own project in 1998 with 4 hectares around Viré in the Mâcon, then acquiring 5 hectares of prime Savagnin, Chardonnay, and Poulsard in Arbois. Florent Rouve officially took over in 2013, but the winery still follows Jean's minimalist blueprint: native yeasts, minimal lees stirring, 18+ months aging before bottling. Pure, mineral, serious whites from Burgundy and the Jura.
