One of Barolo's most storied crus meets one of its most traditional producers in this magnum bottling. Roagna acquired this 0.48-hectare parcel in Castiglione Falletto in 1989, drawn to its prized southerly exposure and calcareous clay soils at 300 meters altitude. The family's minimal-intervention approach—native yeasts, extended maceration, large Slavonian oak aging—allows the terroir's elegant power to shine through. Rocche di Castiglione is celebrated for producing Barolos of exceptional balance, combining the fragrance and finesse typical of this commune with remarkable aging potential.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the highlights of this range from Luca Roagna. It is also a wine that needed 12+ hours to open. The wine's aromatics and inner perfume are total seduction. That's Rocche di Castiglione. Bright and focused on the palate with striking red-toned fruit, the 2020 Rocche is utterly mesmerizing. It is a Barolo that satisfies the hedonistic and intellectual senses. Readers who can find the 2020 should not hesitate, as it is a deeply moving, utterly profound wine of the highest level." —Antonio Galloni

"All about extreme finesse, the impeccable 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione from Roagna is a beautiful wine, starting with its enticing nose of woodland berry, lavender, eucalyptus and dark exotic spice. Elegantly structured and well balanced, the delicious palate delivers succulent Morello cherry, wild raspberry, orange zest, star anise and cinnamon accompanied by taut, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Drink through 2040." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Roagna

Luca Roagna is the fifth generation in a family that's been making wine in Barbaresco since the 1850s. His Dolcetto comes from vines over 45 years old, fermented with real patience and aged in neutral oak. This is the kind of wine that makes you wonder why everyone doesn't make Dolcetto this seriously.

They ferment with a pied de cuvee made from their indigenous yeasts. They then use the technique of submerged cap -- which can last 60-75 days.AgingThe wine is aged in large neutral French botti. The oak Luca uses is never toasted but instead made by using hot steam instead of flame. The wine is normally aged for five years in wood before release.
