Cult Brunello, mature and singing. Giulio Salvioni's tiny Cerbaiola estate sits on a four-hectare patch of high-altitude Montalcino, and demand has always outstripped supply — bottles are allocated in single-digit cases to a handful of importers. The 2008 is a classical vintage that suited Salvioni's restrained, traditional hand: long maceration, large neutral oak, no shortcuts. Seventeen years on, the wine has shed its primary fruit and stepped into that beautiful Brunello middle age — dried cherries, leather, tobacco leaf, wild herbs from the Tuscan hillsides. The tannins are resolved, the acidity is still bright, and there's another decade of drinking ahead if you don't open it first.
