This is Kabinett the old-fashioned way: low in alcohol, gently fruity-sweet, and strung along a wire of Saar acidity that keeps it from ever feeling heavy. The Krettnacher Altenberg is one of the great steep, cool sites of the region, and it hides a rarity, patches of green slate (Diabas) alongside the usual blue-grey. That unusual soil gives this wine a filigreed, apple-and-tangerine precision. At 7.5% alcohol it's a joy to sip your way through an afternoon, but it also has the acid backbone to cellar for years. From young grower Stefan Muller, who revived these forgotten Saar vineyards. Pre-arrival, landing mid-July.
