Suertes del Marques is one of the names that put the Canary Islands back on the wine map, working the dizzying volcanic slopes of the Orotava Valley on Tenerife. As Flatiron puts it, these are some of the world's most unique and delicious wines, all salt and smoke off black volcanic soil. La Solana is a single-vineyard red built from the local Listan Negro on ungrafted, century-plus vines trained in the valley's wild braided cordon system. The 2023 is fresh, lifted and savory, the kind of red that drinks beautifully with a slight chill. Distinctive, energetic and unlike anything else.
