If one of the Terre Nere crus is going to seduce you early, it's this one. Feudo di Mezzo comes from the Quadro delle Rose parcel, barely more than a hectare in Castiglione di Sicilia at around 600 meters, on shallow volcanic soil dominated by ash rather than stone — which is exactly why this wine is plush where stony Calderara is stern. The vines are 60 to 80 years old, head-trained in the old alberello fashion, and the parcel gives only about 5,500 bottles. De Grazia treats it like the rest of the range: fermented in tank and barrel, 14 months in French barriques and tonneaux, a month back in steel, bottled unfined and unfiltered. 2024 was a healthy, generous year on the mountain after the mildew disaster of 2023, and this cru shows it — open and velvety enough to drink now, though it gains luminosity with a few years in bottle.
