Teularju, Barbagia Rosso Ghirada Ocruarana, 2021
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Teularju is a tiny estate hidden deep in the mountainous heart of Sardinia, in the remote Barbagia region. Here, at high elevations and on rocky, poor soils, the local variant of Grenache—Cannonau—produces wines of wild energy and striking authenticity.
Ghirada Ocruarana comes from a single “ghirada” (vineyard district), where ancient bush-trained vines cling to granite and schist slopes. Farming is low-intervention and the winemaking is similarly hands-off: native yeasts, gentle extraction, neutral vessels, and minimal sulfur.
The 2021 vintage is stunning—aromatic and fierce, with notes of wild berries, myrtle, sun-warmed herbs, smoke, and crushed stone. The palate is taut and savory, with dusty tannins, bright acidity, and a finish that lingers on earth and salt. It’s not polished or international—it’s raw, soulful mountain wine, full of character and a vivid sense of place.
Pair with: grilled lamb, wild mushrooms, slow-cooked pork, or anything cooked over woodfire.
