A near-extinct piece of Alpine wine history from one of the Valle d'Aosta's legendary growers. The late Ezio Voyat proved that the village of Chambave could make serious, terroir-driven reds when almost no one outside Italy had heard of it, and his daughter Marilena carries it on. Le Muraglie is the name the family adopted after stepping outside the DOC; it blends Petit Rouge with rare local Gros Vien and a little Dolcetto, grown on tiny, dizzyingly steep mountainside plots, some on pre-phylloxera vines. The 2014 is a mature bottle from a private collection. Wild, smoky and utterly singular, this is mountain wine in the truest sense.
