Yann Bertrand's flagship Fleurie, and the one he makes you wait for: the old-vine cuvée gets a longer élevage in used barrels than anything else in the cellar, then sits an extra year before it's allowed out. The fruit is 100% Gamay from a two-hectare plot of 60-plus-year-old vines on pink granite sand — the fine, sandy granite of Grand Pré at Fleurie's southern edge — farmed organic and biodynamic, then fermented whole-cluster and carbonic on native yeast with no added sulfur, and bottled by gravity, unfined and unfiltered. Bertrand grew up in Fleurie as a vigneron's son, went off to study commerce and work in wine bars, and came home to learn from Jean Foillard, Yvon Métras and Jacques Neauport, Jules Chauvet's quiet right hand; he is now a cult name himself, and these bottles do not sit around. 2024 was hard-won — downy mildew and a violent hailstorm took a little under half the crop — but the wines came in with a low pH that recalls a vintage like 2014, which is exactly the cool, high-tension register this perfumed style thrives in. Zero-zero winemaking at this level of precision is rare; so is a top cuvée that chases lift rather than muscle.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with tarragon, charcuterie and cornichons, duck breast with cherries, mushroom risotto, a good jambon persillé, or grilled sausages with lentils.

Tasting Profile

Light to medium bodied and perfumed, with red cherry, raspberry and violet aromas and a faint peppery, earthy edge from the whole-cluster carbonic fermentation. Bright, mouthwatering acidity, fine and silky tannins, no oak flavor despite the barrel aging. The finish is long, floral and mineral rather than heavy. Serve with a slight chill.
