Yvon Metras is often called the unofficial fifth member of Kermit Lynch's Beaujolais "Gang of Four," a minimal-intervention pioneer in the heart of Fleurie since the late 1980s. Working from Jules Chauvet's additive-free playbook, he makes wines with little to nothing added and no filtering, and they are some of the most coveted, hard-to-find bottles in Beaujolais. This is the 2015 Fleurie, from a famously warm, ripe vintage, now a back-vintage bottle from a private cellar. The generous fruit of the year has begun melding with developing savory complexity, giving a wine that is maturing beautifully while keeping real depth. Drinking well now with life still ahead.
