Marsannay is Burgundy's underrated value frontier, and Bruno Clair is its master, his family rooted here since 1919. Les Grasses Tetes sits mid-slope on heavy, clay-rich soil over limestone, which gives a more powerful, structured red than the estate's other Marsannay sites. It's 100% Pinot Noir from one of the Cote de Nuits' most reliable hands. The 2015 was a warm, ripe vintage, so this drinks generously now with a decade of bottle age, while keeping the firm tannic spine the site is known for.

Antonio Galloni

89 points

"Medium red. Deeply pitched, slightly reduced aromas of plum, currant and strawberry. A bit more pristine than the Vaudenelles, with the red fruit and earth flavors showing more mineral punch and intensity. Less fruity, more soil-driven wine with chewy tannins and iron-like minerality. This wine will benefit from a couple years of bottle aging." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

89 points

"The 2015 Marsannay Les Grasses Têtes had quite an earthy, backward bouquet, just a little smudged by some reduction at the moment. The palate has a grainy texture, perhaps more backbone than the Marsannay Vaudenelle with a hint of licorice towards the finish. There is plenty of character here, if not quite the class of say, some of Roty's Marsannays this vintage. Enjoy this over 4-6 years." —Neal Martin
