Sylvie Esmonin’s Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from old Pinot Noir vines deeply rooted in Gevrey’s limestone soils. Her family has tended these parcels for generations, focusing on vineyard health and balance.

Partial whole-cluster fermentation and aging in mostly neutral oak reveal Gevrey’s dark fruit and classic savory edge. A layered, old-vine Pinot true to Côte de Nuits tradition.

Professional Reviews

BH 92
"(from older vines that average 75+ year old vines located in Aux Carougeot, Gueulpines, Aux Corvées, Combe de Dessus, Jouise, Epointures, En Sylvie, Les Marchais, En Derée, En Songe, En Vosne and both the villages and 1er portion of Clos Prieur). Here the wood is more apparent with a hint of menthol though neither are so much to impinge on the attractiveness of the ripe black cherry, smoked game and overtly floral-scented nose. The rich, generous and more concentrated medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the serious, youthfully austere and built-to-age finale. This is also very good for its level and worth considering." -Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes contains around 60% whole bunches this year and was raised in 50% new oak. At the moment, the wood feels a little present on the aromatics, though that will be subsumed with bottle age. There’s good fruit intensity: black cherries, bilberry and light raspberry scents. The medium-bodied palate has slightly grainy tannins on the entry, moderate depth, and a dab of licorice, lending a little complexity toward the finish. Somehow, I am drawn as much to the Village Cru this year." -Neal Martin

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
