"Distinctly savory, the 2021 Chardonnay Eola Springs Vineyard bursts from the glass with an array of crushed rocks and flint giving way to dried apricots and nectarine. This displays silky textures, seamless and lifted, with crisp orchard fruits and mineral tones cascading across the palate. It finishes with staining length yet is incredibly fresh, leaving a hint of candied citrus and a salty tinge. Nicely done." —Eric Guido

"This is quite the Chardonnay from Brianne Day and the renowned Eola Springs Vineyard in the best Chardonnay appellation in America. Winemaker Brianne Day chose three different blocks and three different clones: Hyde Wente, Mount Eden and Chardonnay 96 (a Dijon clone). She picked the Hyde Wente and Mount Eden early for structure and acid, and the Dijon 96 was picked later to flesh out the palate with riper fruits. Captivating lemon curd aromas and rich, honeyed apricots are followed by almond pastry cream.—dollops of rich lemon cream, ripe peach fuzz, and rich apricot flesh."

"Fruit from one the Willamette Valley's oldest vineyards is transformed into a modern era Chardonnay with blazing acidity. Comforting aromas of lemon tarts and passion fruit are punctuated by notes of Thai basil and mineral. The flavors of Meyer lemons and saltine cracker-like salinity remind me of an Atlantic beach pie, which is a very good thing." —Michael Alberty

More about Day Wines

Brianne Day is a breakout star in an Oregon wine scene full of enological talent. Few winemakers can translate a penchant for wild experimentation into such approachable wines. We’ve been huge fans of Day wines for quite some time and were more than happy to see her get written up by Esther Mobley of the San Francisco Chronicle as one of 2019’s winemakers to watch.

An Oregon native, Day has worked vineyards in Italy, New Zealand, Argentina, and France. She cut her teeth at the enormously influential Brooks winery in Amity before starting her own small-yield winery using rented space in tiny Philomath.

In 2013, Brianne met her future investors and by 2014, she had moved into her current 14,000 square-foot winery. Coining it the “Day Camp”, she shares that space with seven small producers: Jackalope Wine Cellars, Ross & Bee Maloof, Loop de Loop, Holden Wine Company, Bud’s Bloom, Hooray for You! and Alto Cirrus. The idea was to create a collaborative space where innovation and creativity thrive—a community-driven winery where winemakers can share ideas and grow their small businesses. It’s been a resounding success.

Day is Oregon's answer to the experimentalists of the famed Loire and Jura regions of France. She makes wine in a kaleidoscope of styles that challenge boundaries while remaining eminently drinkable. In European wine-growing regions, grapes are tightly controlled by tradition and the industry. But not in Oregon. She is often one of a few domestic producers in the foreign markets where her wines are sold and love to shock her European winemaking friends with the varietal diversity of her home state. With no rigid set of rules, she must follow as a winemaker, bound neither by geography nor tradition, she is free to make the wines that she wants to make without compromise. Welcome to the brave new world of Oregon wine!

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Bowler Wine has to say about this wine:

The first vintage from this remarkable site in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Originally planted in 1972 by Carl Stevens, Eola-Spring is positioned in the throat of the Van Duzer corridor which provides ample ventilation to temper the vines throughout the growing season, and intensifies the sharp diurnal effect in the area. The wine was fermented in a mix of 500L and 228L barrels (30% new), and matured for 18-months before bottling. A beautifully balanced Chardonnay - complex and concentrated, while keeping the marked acidity that the Eola-Amity AVA is known for.
