Old-school Piedmont from a Barbaresco institution. De Forville has farmed in the village of Barbaresco since 1860 and works in a fiercely traditional style, with long aging in large barrels and an honest, terroir-driven hand (imported by Neal Rosenthal). Their Barbera d'Alba comes off estate vineyards and shows the grape at its best: deeply colored, juicy, and low in tannin but full of energy thanks to bright natural acidity. This is the kind of everyday Piedmontese red that overdelivers, ready to enjoy young.

More about De Forville

The De Forville family immigrated from Belgium to Piedmont in 1848 and settled in Barbaresco in 1860, where they've been making wine for over 160 years. Gioachino De Forville pioneered Nebbiolo planting in the area. Today, Valter and Paolo Anfosso (fifth generation) run roughly 11 hectares split between Barbaresco and Castagnole Lanze. First estate-bottled in 1940. Now 100,000 bottles annually. This is family wine at its most authentic.
