A friendly introduction to Nebbiolo from a traditional Barbaresco estate. De Forville has farmed in the village of Barbaresco since 1860 and makes its wines the classic way, with long aging in large barrels (imported by Neal Rosenthal). Their Langhe Nebbiolo offers the grape's signature perfume and structure in a more approachable, earlier-drinking format than their Barbaresco. Expect rose, red cherry, and tar with fine tannins. A smart way to get the Nebbiolo experience without the wait or the price.

More about De Forville

The De Forville family emigrated from Belgium to Piedmont in 1848 and settled in Barbaresco in 1860, where they've been growing Nebbiolo ever since. Today brothers Valter and Paolo Anfosso, the fifth generation, run nearly 11 hectares split between Barbaresco crus like Rabajà, Loreto and Pozzo and Castagnole Lanze. First estate bottling came in 1940. Reds ferment on the skins and age in large oak. This is family wine at its most authentic.

This cuvée is a selection of Nebbiolo from the younger vines of the various “cru” in Barbaresco supplemented by grapes from the neighboring village of Neive. The average age of the vines is 30 years. The wine is fermented in stainless steel for 10 days to 2 weeks and then is refined in large oak barrels for an additional year before being bottled. An astonishing value … as are all of the fine wines from this remarkable estate. We import as much as 9,600 bottles per year of the Langhe Nebbiolo.
