Cairanne is the southern Rhone's secret weapon, and Marcel Richaud has spent four decades proving it. Now run by daughter Claire alongside the family, this organic, naturally-minded estate makes some of the most soulful, terroir-honest reds in the appellation. Terre d'Aigles draws from old vines (averaging 60 years) on sandy-clay soils near the Aigues river — a fresh, sun-warmed Cotes du Rhone built on Grenache with Syrah, Carignan, and Counoise filling in the texture. Fermented spontaneously, aged in concrete, bottled with a light hand. Expect creamy, gulpable Grenache fruit laced with pepper, garrigue, and that unmistakable Richaud purity. One of the best CDR values you'll find anywhere.

Perfect Pairings

Daube de boeuf with olives, herb-roasted chicken with thyme, ratatouille, lamb merguez sausages, classic pissaladiere, and aged Comte. Equally happy with a tomato-rubbed baguette and a fat hunk of garlic saucisson.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied, supple, and fresh. Red plum, raspberry, sweet wild strawberry, cracked black pepper, dried lavender, and garrigue herbs. Creamy concrete-aged texture, gentle tannins, and a savory, herb-tinged finish.
