Elijah Craig is Heaven Hill's tribute to the 18th-century Kentucky Baptist preacher and distiller who, according to a long-told but shaky legend, was the first to age whiskey in charred oak barrels. Whatever the history, the bourbon is the real thing: rich, oak-driven and full of caramel, vanilla and baking spice. Perfect Pairings

Neat, over ice, or in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Pairs with smoked brisket, ribs, burgers and glazed pork, or with pecan pie and dark chocolate after dinner. The 375ml is the right size for a weekend, a gift, or a bar cart that needs restocking.

Tasting Profile

Vanilla, caramel and toasted nuts on the nose, driven by noticeable oak. Pecan pie on the palate — brown sugar and baked nuts — with medium to full body and warming spice underneath. Finishes round and long, sweet-edged rather than sharp.
