"The 2021 Riesling Kabinett Trocken CAI offers a deep and pure as well as aromatic and slate-driven bouquet with ripe and elegant Riesling aromas. Lush and supple but refined and elegant on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, pure, fresh and saline/crystalline but full-flavored and textured dry Kabinett with stunning substance and juicy, ripe fruit but just 10% stated alcohol. It has a saline and stimulatingly fresh finish. It was bottled with about 21 to 22 milligrams of free SO2, which is lower than in previous years and possibly causing the suppleness and textural qualities of this serious dry Riesling. The 12th century building on this estate was occupied by the Immich family from the middle ages until 1989. It was Carl August Immich who was responsible for the Batterieberg title. It refers to his demolition of the steep rock face Enkirch hillside by dynamite in order to make it (slightly) more hospitable to growing vines.

In 2008 after a stint at Von Volxem and Knebel, Gernot Kollmann and his partners purchased the estate and he took over the winemaking. The vines are some of Germany's most genetically diverse, from pre-phylloxera-own-rooted vines.

Vineyards are centered on the quartz and grey slate of Batterieberg, but also include plots in blue slated Ellerbrug, red slated Steffensberg and quartz and grey slate of Zeppwingert.

Cellar work is minimal with all wines allowed to ferment naturally without the additions of yeast and with only minimal sulphur. The wines are vibrant, complex and long lived.

deliciously quaffable

i bought this solely on the strength of my affection for I-M’s other,more expensive Rieslings. It’s delicious and pleasant. yeah sure less complex but also so much less expensive!
