Within Hirsch's mosaic of 67 estate blocks, the Maritime parcel is something apart. As Jasmine Hirsch and the team describe it, this is the most pronouncedly savory wine in the lineup, evoking the redwoods and wild fennel that hem in the site on the foggy western edge of the Sonoma Coast. It's a multi-block Estate bottling drawn from the Maritime Fields parcel, biodynamically farmed, and made in tiny quantities for the winery's allocation list. The 2023 is dark-fruited and brooding but unmistakably cool-climate: black cherry and plum laced with rose petal, leather, chalk, and exotic spice, with the tension and palate presence that mark every great Hirsch wine. One of the most distinctive Pinots on the far Sonoma Coast, and a wine built for the long haul.

More about Hirsch Vineyards

David Hirsch fell in love with Burgundy in the 1970s, then set out to translate that dream into Sonoma Coast terroir. Since 1980, he's planted a vineyard so fragmented (67 individual blocks) that it rivals Burgundy's own subdivision. All farmed biodynamically since 2011 with no machines, his Pinot Noir and Chardonnay capture the Sonoma Coast's bracing minerality and elegance—a love letter to place.
