Falanghina is one of southern Italy's oldest white grapes — almost certainly grown by the Romans — and Sannio, the hilly inland zone of Benevento in Campania, is one of its great homes. I Pentri, named for the ancient Samnite tribe that lived in these hills, was founded by Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato to coax depth out of Campania's native varieties from terraced vineyards on the slopes of Monte Taburno. The 'Flora' is their dry, expressive Falanghina, made organically with hands-on attention and minimal intervention. It shows everything the grape does well — citrus blossom, white peach, fresh herbs — without any of the overripeness that dogs Falanghina in lesser hands. A current-release southern Italian white that punches above its weight.

"The 2023 Falanghina Flora displays a glistening golden hue. It entices with a pretty mix of wildflowers, stone dust, apricots and sweet smoke on the nose. Ripe in style, the palate offers a core of juicy acidity to balance an opulent wave of orchard fruits that sweeps across the senses, leaving a tinge of citrusy spice. Long yet energetic, the 2023 leaves a lasting impression as nuances of nectarine and a hint of sour melon fade. Pure Falanghina seduction in a glass." —Eric Guido

More about I Pentri

Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato founded this Benevento winery in 2002 on terraced hillsides of Monte Taburno—ten hectares of biodynamic fruit fermented wild and bottled unfined, unfiltered. Their son Alessandro helps carry it forward. These wines (Falanghina, Piedirosso) restore credibility to Campania's forgotten native varieties. No chemicals, no shortcuts, just terroir.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Grilled prawns, mozzarella di bufala with tomato, pasta alle vongole, salt-baked fish, or fritto misto. The wine's freshness and herbal lift make it a natural with anything coastal or Mediterranean in spirit.

Tasting Profile

Citrus blossom, white peach, lemon zest, and fresh herbs over a faint mineral undertow. The palate is dry and bright with crisp acidity, a touch of stone-fruit roundness, and a clean, herbal, gently saline finish.
