What is this wine?
Il Verro is a tiny, organic farm and winery in Alto Casertano, northern Campania, dedicated to reviving nearly forgotten native grapes. Pallagrello Nero is one of the region’s historical varieties, once favored by the Bourbon royal court but nearly extinct before its recent revival. Il Verro’s careful farming and minimal-intervention approach give a pure expression of this rare grape.

Why get this wine?
Pallagrello Nero is a true hidden gem: complex, elegant, and distinct from Campania’s better-known Aglianico. Il Verro is one of the few producers specializing in it, making this bottle both rare and authentic. It’s a chance to taste history in a glass, at a price far more approachable than its uniqueness would suggest.

What does this wine taste like?
Medium-bodied and graceful, with flavors of red cherry, plum, and blackberry accented by spice, licorice, and a faint floral note. Gentle tannins and balanced acidity give it a silky, refined character.

When should you drink this wine?
Delicious now with a light decant, especially with roasted poultry, charcuterie, mushroom dishes, or Neapolitan classics. It will also hold well for 5–6 years.
