Burghound

"An appealingly layered and slightly smoky nose features notes of citrus, pear, apple and acacia blossom. As is typically the case with this wine there is both excellent volume and fine mid-palate density as the abundant dry extract that coats the palate and buffers the moderately firm acid spine on the delicious and persistent finish where a touch of pain grillé appears. I should note that this is not super complex at the moment but the underlying material is present such that I believe more will develop with bottle age." —Allen Meadows

Antonio Galloni

"Subtle aromas of citrus fruits, flowers and clove, plus a complicating leesy nuance. Not a large-scaled wine but boasts surprising energy to its tactile flavors of pear, peach and flowers. Firmly built and persistent, leaving behind a lightly tannic impression and a brisk citrus quality. This wine has good ripe acidity to support its fruit." —Stephen Tanzer

"After a prematurely oxidized bottle in a Beaune restaurant, I opened my last bottle of Carillon's 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet at home a few days later. It performed better than the alarmingly amber-hued restaurant bottle, but it still exhibited considerably less tension and aromatic range than this wine showed only a few years ago. Drink up!" —William Kelley

More about Jacques Carillon

The Carillon family's roots in Puligny-Montrachet trace back to 1520, and today Jacques works 5.25 hectares of prime real estate with near-organic rigor. Eleven small parcels, all hand-harvested, aged in a six-year barrel rotation with restrained new oak—the result is limestone-driven white Burgundy of remarkable precision and minerality.
