Foillard's Eponym is the cuvée he named for himself — and it deserves the autobiography. The wine comes from the Charmes lieu-dit, one of the highest parcels in Morgon, and shows a different face of the Foillard portfolio: more crunch and acidity than the velvety Corcelette, leaner and more mineral than the brooding Côte du Py, but unmistakably Foillard in its satin texture. Jean Foillard is, of course, one of the legendary Gang of Four — the Beaujolais quartet (Lapierre, Thévenet, Breton, Foillard) who pioneered natural Beaujolais under Jules Chauvet's influence. The 2021 vintage was tiny and cool, which suits the Eponym's style — taut, energetic, with bright acidity holding everything in tension. Drink now or hold; Foillard's Morgons age beautifully.

Jean Foillard is a natural-wine icon and charter member of Beaujolais' legendary 'gang of four'—those who answered Jules Chauvet's call to refuse pesticides, chaptalisation, and filtration. For half a century, his 14 organically farmed hectares have produced Morgon from the famed Côte du Py, with its roches pourries (rotten rock) of decomposed granite and schist. His wines are serious, lush, and utterly unforgettable.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied, with red cherry, raspberry, crushed flowers, and a mineral, slightly granitic edge. Crunchy acidity, supple tannins, satiny texture, and a clean, energetic, mineral-finished close.
