"The 2014 Brut Nature Hautes Mottes Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, harvested in the eponymous parcel in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and vinified in 300-liter barrels, shimmers with an unusually golden tone. Its vinous nose is rich with baked apple, whipped double cream and crumbly shortcrust pastry, with a slight overtone of nuttiness. The palate is all saltiness, adding a touch of wet walnut skin funk to its exquisitely pure, salty, chalky depth while fine foam washes around like a roaring surf. This wine offers a wonderful juxtaposition of richness and bracing purity with a gorgeously visceral umami finish. Fine, long, unusual and so long." —Antonio Galloni

J.L. Vergnon is a five-hectare estate in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, now in the hands of Didier Vergnon and his son Clément as fourth and fifth generations. They farm organically, eschew chaptalization and malolactic fermentation, and blend more than twenty parcels into Champagnes of precision and power.
