Chambolle 1er Cru from one of Burgundy's great négociant-domaines, in the warm and generous 2018 vintage. Les Fuées is one of Chambolle-Musigny's most respected premier crus — it shares a border with Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which lends it a touch more weight and structure than the village's lacier sites while keeping Chambolle's signature perfumed elegance. Louis Jadot, under technical director Frédéric Barnier (who succeeded the legendary Jacques Lardière in 2013), makes a precise, restrained, classical style here. 2018 brought ripe fruit and supple texture along with enough acidic drive to keep things lifted — and seven years on, this is in a lovely first window of drinking, the perfume already in full flower while the architecture holds firm.

"Strong reduction and less obvious, though hardly invisible, wood presently dominates the underlying fruit. There is a wonderfully seductive mouthfeel to the velvet-textured flavors that possess that beguiling inner mouth perfume as well as plenty of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the solidly lingering and mildly warm finish. This too needs to add depth but that should gradually develop over time." —Allen Meadows

"The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a perfumed, pure bouquet of rose-petal-infused red cherry, crushed strawberry and orange peel aromas that feel cohesive and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, good depth and plenty of flesh, though the Les Baudes offers a little more backbone and intellect." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

"Like this year's Baudes, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées (Domaine Louis Jadot) is especially successful, revealing lovely aromas of raspberries, potpourri, Asian spices, black tea and cherries. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and supple, with a layered core that's gourmand and charming, concluding with a long and perfumed finish." —William Kelley

"Adjacent to Bonnes Mares, Les Fuées is east facing with stony soils. Destemmed and macerated for a month in open vats before maturation in oak for 18 months.Star anise, red plum and red cherry on this complex and bright nose. Silky smooth but plentiful tannins frame an expansive core of floral red fruits on the palate. Quite marked smoky, chocolatey oak at this stage but such is the power of fruit that it should knit together well with time." —Thomas Parker MW

"Louis Jadot's vines are divided between three parcels that have different orientations across and up and down the slope to the north of the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Sweetly oaked, this has a hint of noble reduction, plush, caressing tannins, fine-grained red berry fruit and a smoky, toasty finish. It's ripe, but the acidity freshens the finish."

More about Louis Jadot

Founded in 1859, Jadot is one of Burgundy's great estates and négociants, with 600 acres scattered across the region's best vineyards—Chablis to Moulin-à-Vent. They make hundreds of wines, but each bottle carries the iconic Bacchus emblem and the weight of nearly two centuries of accumulated wisdom. Burgundy without the pretension.
