Lucien Aviet founded this estate in 1960 in Montigny-lès-Arsures—the historic birthplace of Trousseau—after returning from the Algerian War with a single inherited hectare. He started alongside Pierre Overnoy, following similar minimal-intervention principles. In 1968, he founded La Confrérie de Bacchus with geologist friends; the "Cuvée des Géologues" honors that 50+ year friendship. This is 80% Trousseau, 20% Poulsard from four parcels including Ruzard, naturally fermented, sometimes aged sous voile. His son Vincent joined in 1990. Jura's living history.

"The 2021 Trousseau Arbois Cuvée des Géologues Ruzard starts off a little reductive. Time in the glass gradually brings out delicate red fruits alongside earthy and leafy elements. Markedly less concentrated than Aviet’s 2022s, this 2021 appeals to readers looking for a lighter style with a focus on elegance over power. Coming in at 12.5% alcohol with almost tangy acidity, the medium-bodied 2021 Ruzard walks off the stage with an uplifting finish." —Nicolas Greinacher

More about Lucien Aviet & Fils Arbois Le Caveau de Bacchus

Lucien Aviet went against the grain in the 1960s, planting trousseau and savagnin when his neighbors were pulling up old vines for Chardonnay. He believed in native yeasts and low yields, and his son Vincent still does. The different trousseau cuvées, each named for the geologists who helped select terroir, showcase Jura at its most serious and complex.
