Luis Rodriguez Vazquez is one of Ribeiro's great heroes, a Galician grower who since 1988 has single-handedly revived native grapes like Caino, Ferrol and Brancellao that had nearly vanished. A Torna dos Pasas Escolma is his top red, made only in the best years from those old-vine native varieties on steep, south-facing granite hillsides in Arnoia. Spontaneously fermented and raised in used French oak, it's a structured, age-worthy expression of Ribeiro's crunchy, mineral red character. A rare and serious bottle.
