Miani’s “Buri” Merlot is more than just a wine—it’s a statement. From a small, perfectly situated plot in Buttrio (“Buri”), this bottling represents Enzo Pontoni’s most meticulous work: low yields, hand-tended vines, and ultra-selective harvesting, all in the service of purity and power.

The 2021 vintage delivers a wine of extraordinary focus and balance: black plum, violets, graphite, dark chocolate, and wild herbs, framed by polished but firm tannins and a mineral core that keeps the richness taut. It’s densely layered yet never heavy, with a finish that rolls on for minutes.

There’s almost no new oak intrusion—just seamless integration—and the aging potential is immense. Drink from 2026 onward, or lay it down for 15–20 years. If you think you know Merlot, Buri will challenge and expand your idea of what’s possible.

Enzo Pontoni founded Miani in 1985 and capped production at fewer than 700 cases per year. His Sauvignon Blancs command a cult following—rare, expensive, impossible to find. The soil is ponca: layers of calcareous clay and sandstone. The approach is obsessive. This is what happens when a grower refuses to compromise or scale up.

Tasting Profile

Dark and structured with plum, dark cherry, and subtle mineral notes. Medium body with fine tannins and balanced acidity. Finish is persistent with dark fruit and herb character.

Enzo Pontoni of Miani is a fanatic winegrower — he savagely prunes his vines, so drastically that his yields are the same as at Château d'Yquem. Each vine produces enough grapes to make one glass of wine. All of his wines, red or white are intensely concentrated. His methods in the vineyard and in the cellar are uncompromising. These are unique wines of intense character.
