Fifty-eight years old, from Beppe Colla's earliest years remaking Prunotto and modern Barolo itself. Colla took over Prunotto in 1956 and in 1961 bottled Bussia as the first single-vineyard Barolo, inspired by Burgundy and against every prevailing Piedmontese convention. This 1967 Bussia di Monforte d'Alba Riserva is from the cru's earliest single-vineyard releases, when the idea was still revolutionary. 1967 was a classical, moderate vintage in the Langhe. Nearly six decades on, this is a true museum piece: any surviving bottle is an heirloom and a fragile one, fully into its tertiary register. Drink with reverence, with a slow carafe and an understanding that this bottle was sealed before the moon landing.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Whisper-quiet, classical plates: butter-bathed agnolotti del plin, plain roast capon, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, lightly seasoned risotto. Save the white truffle, if you have one, for the moment of pouring this fragile heirloom.

Tasting Profile

Pale brick fading to amber rim. Ghostly, beautiful tertiary nose: dried roses, faded cherry, truffle, autumn leaves, leather, sweet earth, dried orange peel. Whispered tannins, gentle acidity. Fragile, fleeting, profound.
