Fifty-one years old. This Riserva was made by Beppe Colla himself, decades before the Antinori sale — when Prunotto was a tiny, fiercely classical Alba house and Beppe was widely considered one of Barolo's most rigorous traditionalists. 1974 was a modest vintage, but Riserva selection in those hands meant the longest aging, the strictest fruit cut, and only-in-the-best-years bottling. Half a century on, this is a working museum piece from a producer who no longer exists in the same form. The wine will be fragile, perfumed, and quiet — the tannins long gone, the fruit transmuted entirely into tertiary notes. Drink it tonight with reverence. No upside, just history in a glass.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

A wine this old needs a quiet plate — agnolotti in brodo, simple roasted capon with white truffle, or aged Parmigiano. Anything reduced, charred, or assertive will steamroll it.

Tasting Profile

Fragile, ethereal, fully tertiary. Dried rose, sweet leather, autumn leaf, faded cherry, mushroom, and balsamic earth. The tannin and acid are echoes; the perfume is everything. A whisper from another era.
