11/18: Jean-Baptiste Souillard, A New Voice in the Northern Rhône

$40.00

We are thrilled to welcome Jean-Baptiste Souillard, who creates finely crafted Northern Rhône wines inspired by Burgundy. Join us on Wednesday, November 18 at 6pm on our mezzanine for this seminar.

His vines are perched at the top of the hills, where the granite soil gives the grapes a unique freshness and elegance. On a tiny estate of just over seven hectares, he farms his own vines and buys exceptional grapes to produce very rare wines in Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, and Côte-Rôtie.

In the cellar, his work is incredibly pure: he uses no new oak, no chemical additives, and minimal intervention. This results in vibrant, light, and perfectly precise wines that truly express the essence of the rock. He refuses to blend different vineyards, instead, he isolates each vine plot so that every bottle tells the story of a single, specific place “lieu-dit”. Some are for drinking now; others are for the cellar.

About Jean-Baptiste Souillard
With six wine diplomas, a stint at Château Latour and a year at Comte Armand under Benjamin Leroux, Saint-Joseph native Jean-Baptiste Souillard knew exactly what he wanted to say about his home region. He works the “têtes de coteaux”, where granite breaks through, choosing each site for freshness, elegance and a clear sense of place. The range combines “micro-négoce” from purchased grapes with his family's own vines, now moving toward regenerative farming.

Please join us on Wednesday, November 18 at 6pm on our mezzanine to discover delicate and precise wines, with gorgeous fruit, granite-driven freshness from single-vineyard Northern Rhône, a new way of interpreting the complex terroirs within.
