Kick off the 2026 World Cup with Flatiron Wines & Spirits and come cheer on two legendary teams as they face off on the pitch of our mezzanine for a walk-around style tasting of selected wines from eight different growers. Between 5:30 and 7:30pm on June 22, drop in and meet the winemakers themselves.

On the agenda: terroir, excellence, and tradition. You’ll feel the pulse of these two great nations as you immerse yourself in the experience. This friendly face-off presents a rare opportunity to meet a host of essential producers who embody the very best of German and Austrian viticulture.

TEAM GERMANY

1. Weingut Kruger-Rumpf
Located in Münster-Sarmsheim along the Nahe River, Weingut Kruger-Rumpf combines steep slate vineyards with a modern, energetic approach to German wine. The family estate is known for expressive Rieslings that balance vibrant minerality with generosity and charm, alongside beautifully crafted Pinot Noir and traditional sparkling wines. Their wines capture both the cool elegance and sunny warmth of the Nahe region.

2. Weingut Dönnhoff
A benchmark estate of the Nahe, Weingut Dönnhoff is celebrated for producing some of Germany’s most elegant and age-worthy Rieslings. Family-owned for generations and led today by Cornelius Dönnhoff, the winery farms iconic vineyards such as Hermannshöhle and Dellchen with a focus on precision, balance, and terroir expression. From crystalline dry Rieslings to noble sweet wines, Dönnhoff represents the timeless finesse of the Nahe.
The winery will be represented by Sasha.
 
3. Weingut Braunewell
A rising star of Rheinhessen, Weingut Braunewell is a family-run estate focused on sustainable farming and wines of purity and drinkability. Brothers Christian and Stefan Braunewell craft vibrant Rieslings, elegant Pinot varieties, and fresh, modern interpretations of classic German grapes. Their wines combine precision with approachability, showcasing the dynamic new generation of Rheinhessen winemaking.
The winery will be represented by Stefan.
 
4. Weingut Bürklin-Wolf
One of Germany’s most historic and prestigious wine estates, Weingut Bürklin-Wolf has been a pioneer of dry Riesling and biodynamic viticulture in the Pfalz. With holdings in many of the region’s top Grand Cru vineyards, the estate produces powerful yet refined wines with remarkable depth and longevity. Bürklin-Wolf’s commitment to terroir-driven winemaking and uncompromising quality has made it a global icon of German Riesling.
The winery will be represented by Fabian.

TEAM AUSTRIA

1. Weingut Bründlmayer
Founded in Langenlois in the Kamptal, Weingut Bründlmayer is one of Austria’s most internationally celebrated wineries. Under the leadership of Willi Bründlmayer, the estate has become synonymous with world-class Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and traditional-method Sekt. With vineyards spanning a remarkable range of geological formations, Bründlmayer crafts wines of finesse, balance, and unmistakable Austrian character, always with an emphasis on sustainability and elegance.
The winery will be represented by Thomas.

2. Johanneshof Reinisch
Johanneshof Reinisch, located in Austria’s Thermenregion just south of Vienna, is a leading producer of elegant Pinot Noir and traditional Austrian white varieties such as Rotgipfler and Zierfandler. The Reinisch family farms organically and is celebrated for crafting wines that are refined, vibrant, and deeply reflective of their limestone-rich vineyards. Their Pinot Noirs, in particular, have earned international acclaim for their Burgundian finesse and precision.
The winery will be represented by Alexander.

3. Weingut Hirsch
Family-owned and deeply rooted in the Kamptal, Weingut Hirsch is one of Austria’s benchmark estates for terroir-driven Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Led by Johannes Hirsch, the winery is known for its organic farming, focus on single-vineyard expressions, and elegant, mineral wines that beautifully capture the diversity of the Kamptal’s soils. Hirsch combines precision with purity, producing wines that are both age-worthy and incredibly food-friendly.
The winery will be represented by Johannes' daughter Marie.

4. Weingut Prieler
Located on the western shores of Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, Weingut Prieler is renowned for producing some of Austria’s finest Blaufränkisch alongside expressive Pinot Blancs. Family-run and deeply connected to the limestone and slate-rich terroirs of Leithaberg, the Prieler family focuses on purity, structure, and age ability. Their wines combine power with restraint, making them a favorite among sommeliers and collectors alike.
The winery will be represented by the Skurnik Team.

On the field, there are no favorites. From soil to glass, each estate will deploy its unique strategy to win over your palate. Between the sharp purity of the German cuvées and the silky complexity of the Austrian wines, you’ll find yourself delightfully torn.
