Cordovin doesn't make its name on big Rioja reds. This high-altitude town in Rioja Alta has spent centuries making clarete instead, a pale pink wine built by an old and slightly odd method: white Viura and red Garnacha macerated together, rather than blended after the fact. Bodega 220 Cantaras inherits that recipe and gives it a French finish, aging the wine on its fine lees in barrel, which is what the "lias finas" of the name refers to. The result drinks less like a poolside rose and more like a serious white with a blush of color. If your idea of pink wine is something you stop buying in September, this one argues otherwise.
