A library Gevrey from one of the village's great self-made vignerons, now showing its full maturity. Alain Burguet built this domaine from nothing, and his "Mes Favorites" bottling is the heart of it: Pinot Noir drawn from roughly thirty old-vine parcels scattered across seven Gevrey lieux-dits, vinified the old way with native yeasts and long barrel aging. This is the 2001, a vintage now well past two decades in bottle, so expect a wine in its mature, secondary phase rather than a primary fruit bomb. Village-level Gevrey-Chambertin, but with the depth that only ancient vines and serious sorting can give. Drink soon, and decant gently off any sediment.

More about Alain Burguet

Alain Burguet started from scratch in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1976, piecing together over 40 small parcels as older vineyard owners retired. Now Jean-Luc and Eric Burguet run the domaine—working 9.5 hectares organically since the late '70s and biodynamically now, 100% destemmed fruit, minimal new oak, unfined and unfiltered. These are Pinot Noirs built for meditation, not showing off. Pure, mineral, alive.
