Brovia is one of Barolo's true traditionalists—a family-run estate since 1863 with 19 hectares of prime vineyard and a philosophy of letting each cru speak for itself. Under fourth-generation leadership (Cristina and Elena with winemaker Alex Sanchez), Brovia remains committed to organic farming and conscientious single-cru bottlings. Brea Ca' Mia, from Serralunga d'Alba, shows the house style: beautifully balanced, mineral-driven Nebbiolo that rewards patience. At 19 years, this wine is entering its sweet spot—tannins softening, aromatic complexity emerging. A 1.5L format offers value for serious collectors.

"Brovia's 2005 Barolo Ca' Mia is one of the most massively tannic, forbidding 2005s I tasted for this article. Will the 2005 ever open up? I am not sure. Based on this tasting, it looks like the 2005 has put on significant weight since it was bottled a few years ago. The aromatics are beguiling but otherwise, the 2005 is in no mood to show anything at this stage. Readers will have to be exceedingly patient. Based on all the other wines in the lineup, I think there is a fair chance the Ca' Mia will one day be more expressive, but today it is shut down hard." —Antonio Galloni
