Chateau d'Yquem is the first-growth of Sauternes, the singular Premier Cru Superieur of 1855, made from botrytized Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc gathered grape by grape. This is the rich, opulent 1989, widely regarded as one of the estate's greatest modern vintages, in a half-bottle that's a perfect size for a few glasses. From a private cellar and now lusciously mature, it delivers Yquem's hallmark concentration and length. Treat it as the icon it is, serve well chilled, and don't rush.

More about Chateau d'Yquem

The world's greatest sweet wine. Only château to hold Premier Cru Supérieur status, d'Yquem averages six passes through the vineyard each vintage for botrytized grapes. Yields near 2.5 acres, infinitesimal production. Thomas Jefferson knew. You should too.

Lush, mature Sauternes: candied apricot, orange marmalade, honey and spice. Concentrated and unctuous, balanced by vibrant acidity. Long.
