Since 2016, Château La Lagune has operated entirely under organic certification, farming its 80-hectare vineyard on the Médoc's textbook terroir of gravel and silica soils. Caroline Frey, current owner and winemaker, stewards this Third Growth with precision. The gravelly plateau and clay subsoil provide ideal drainage while maintaining moisture reserves, creating balanced, age-worthy wines. A modern, environmentally conscious iteration of a historic Médoc property.

"The 2016 La Lagune has a very well-defined bouquet featuring perfumed rose petal scents flanking the cranberry and raspberry fruit; the oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and slightly tarry in style, displaying fine precision toward a finish that feels just a little dry. This is another 2016 of which I have encountered better examples in the past. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting."

"The 2016 la Lagune has a medium garnet-purple color and nose of intense cassis, warm cherries, redcurrants and spice box with earth and bay leaves in the undercurrent. The medium-bodied, earth-laced palate is plush and lively, finishing long." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"Tasted blind. Rich and fruity. Good constitution and much less hard than most of its peers. Rather inky finish but quite persistent." —Jancis Robinson MW

"Now certified organic, and converting to biodynamics from this year. It displays a confident weight to the damson fruits that are hugely elegant and well placed. A little closed when tasted on two occasions, and the high Petit Verdot content of this wine is no doubt contributing to its slight austerity at this stage, but it also brings that beautifully welcome whoosh of black fruit spicing. Very good quality, elegant and long-ageing, just a dash below the exceptional 2015." —Jane Anson

"One of the big estates in the southern Médoc, this property has produced a rich, balanced wine packed with black-currant fruits and fine, elegant tannins. Drink from 2025." —Roger Voss
