Welcome to the top tier of Muscadet. Clisson is one of the appellation's recognized Crus Communaux (officially in 2011), defined by its granite bedrock, late-ripening vines and required extended lees aging, which together produce a deeper, broader, more structured style than standard Sevre-et-Maine. Chereau-Carre's Le Sillon de Braudieres comes from the family's Chateau-Thebaud holdings on the Clisson granite, and the 2018 vintage offers ripe-edged but tense old-vine fruit. This is Muscadet pulled toward grand-cru white-Burgundy territory: textured, saline, structured, with serious aging potential. A revelation for anyone who still thinks of Muscadet as a one-trick oyster wine.

"The 2018 Le Sillon des Braudières is derived from granite soils located at the intersection of Sillon de Bretagne, which separates the Clisson and Château-Thébaud Crus Communaux regions. Evoking pear and iodine aromas, it’s lively and taut but, unfortunately, a bit metallic on the finish." —Yohan Castaing

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Step beyond oysters: try with lobster thermidor, roast chicken with lemon and thyme, halibut with brown butter, or aged hard cheeses. The structure and texture also handle pork dishes, especially anything with apple or mustard.

Tasting Profile

Medium-plus body, broad-shouldered and saline. Ripe yellow apple, white peach and citrus pith meet chamomile, almond skin and a smoky mineral note from the granite. Creamy lees texture supports vibrant acidity; the finish is long, salty and slowly evolving.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
