A library-aged Muscadet that makes the case for taking this appellation seriously. The Comte Leloup du Chateau de Chasseloir comes from century-old vines at Chereau-Carre's flagship estate in Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine, fermented in stainless and aged sur lie before extended bottle rest. The 2014 has had eleven years to evolve, and reviewers consistently note how slowly these wines age, still showing tension and lift well into their second decade. Today this is layered, savory and complex, with citrus pulled toward marmalade and the lees-derived texture deepened into something almost waxy. A perfectly mature white at a fraction of what mature Burgundy costs.

Perfect Pairings

Mature Muscadet shines with cooked seafood: lobster bisque, sole meuniere, scallops with brown butter, or shellfish-rich paella. Also wonderful with roast chicken, soft-rind cheeses like Saint-Marcellin, or a classic plateau de fruits de mer.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied and savory. Lemon marmalade, yellow apple, ripe nectarine and oyster shell over chamomile, lanolin and beeswax. Acidity remains taut, the lees texture has deepened, and a salty-mineral finish carries on. Fully mature, holding beautifully.
