Old-vine Muscadet from one of the appellation's standard-bearers. The Comte Leloup du Chateau de Chasseloir is sourced from the oldest plot at the Chereau-Carre family's flagship estate, with vines that have crossed the century mark, sitting at the boundary of Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine and Chateau-Thebaud. Fermented and aged sur lie in the traditional Sevre-et-Maine manner, the 2019 carries the extra weight and salinity that ancient roots and long lees contact bring. Six years on, it has shed any baby-fat citrus and moved into a more mineral, faintly honeyed register. The Muscadet for skeptics: textured, complex, and built to age.

The classic platter of oysters on the half shell, but this one also goes well beyond shellfish: steamed mussels with shallots, ceviche, fried calamari, chevre tarts, or Vietnamese summer rolls. The extra texture handles richer seafood preparations too.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied and texturally dense for Muscadet. Lemon pith, green apple and ripe melon meet chamomile, oyster shell and a salty mineral finish. Lees-derived creaminess wraps tart-apple acidity, with the first hints of honey and lanolin emerging.
