Of Cristom's four "estate family" single-vineyard Pinots, Louise is the gentlest and most generous in personality — named for Paul Gerrie's maternal grandmother. It's also, fittingly, the first vineyard the family ever planted on the Eola-Amity property, going in the ground in 1993. The block sits lower on the slope, between roughly 290 and 440 feet, with an upper section on deep Jory basalt and a lower portion on Missoula Flood silts and sedimentary rock. That geological split shows in the glass: classic basalt-driven Pinot perfume framed by a softer, more sediment-fed mid-palate. Steve Doerner's whole-cluster house style holds it all together. The 2023 is approachable but serious, the most welcoming of the estate quartet.

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Louise Vineyard wafts up with a beguiling herbal and earthy air as crushed rocks and flowery underbrush give way to rose petals and dried strawberries. More lifted and graceful in style, it offers bright red berry fruits and crunchy mineral tones under a cascade of rosy inner florals. Structure emerges on the finish as grippy tannins mingle with tart cranberry and a nuance of licorice slowly fades." —Eric Guido

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Louise Vineyard was fermented with 49% whole clusters and matured for 18 months in 41% new French oak. It has pure, dynamic scents of red cherry, cranberry, floral potpourri, mossy bark and bresaola. The medium-bodied palate is powerfully styled with highly concentrated, floral flavors. It’s framed by supple tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, layered finish. 783 cases were made." —Erin Brooks

"Shows tension and detail, with floral cherry and red currant flavors that take on green tea and forest floor accents as this builds toward broad but refined tannins."

More about Cristom

Founder and owner Paul Gerrie has used his skills as an engineer and avid researcher to pursue his passion for wine. On his travels to France, he was introduced to and embraced the traditional growing practices of Burgundy which he now instills in his own wines. Use of whole cluster and native yeast fermentation allows for the fruit and land to truly express themselves and Cristom has also farmed sustainably since 1992.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

A natural with roast duck, pork tenderloin with cherry sauce, grilled salmon, or wild mushroom dishes. Also lovely with herb-roasted chicken, soft-rind cheeses, or charcuterie spreads.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied, silky, and pretty, with ripe red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and warm baking spice. The palate is plush and rounded — basalt minerality up top, a softer, almost sweet mid-palate, gentle tannins, and a long, perfumed finish.
