Dame de Montrose represents Saint-Estephe from a celebrated Left Bank Bordeaux estate, bottled in this graceful half-bottle (375ml) format for individual enjoyment. Saint-Estephe, the northernmost Left Bank appellation, is known for structured, age-worthy Cabernet-based wines that balance power with elegance and terroir expression. The 2020 vintage captured harvest conditions favorable for concentrated fruit and balanced tannin development in this cool year. This is terroir-driven Bordeaux in classic format—fruit-forward enough for current enjoyment, structured enough for meaningful cellaring and evolution. The half-bottle format makes this accessible for individual exploration or smaller household consumption without compromise to quality. A gateway to Left Bank tradition.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 2020 Dame de Montrose does not quite have the horsepower of its peers on the nose—quite floral and Margaux-like—though it is nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, sweet entry. Marmalade- and licorice-infused black fruit lead to a sinewy, slightly blocky finish. It just lacks a bit of finesse, though for a Deuxième Vin? No complaints. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting." —Neal Martin

Decanter

93 points

"Soft purple flowers on the nose, quite perfumed and seductive tones with ripe black fruit, peonies, blueberries and plums. Rich and supple, round with mouthwatering acidity - clean and crisp, steely and mineral with a core of crushed stones, pencil lead, slate and liquorice-edged black fruits. Power and concentration - it's plush and potent, but also quite tight with the flavours expanding vertically. Not as generous and openly friendly at this point but so svelte and well worked with a sense of style to it."

Wine Spectator

"A very fresh and driven style, with a racy core of damson plum, red cherry and dried lilac laced with hints of black tea and iron, which nicely extend the finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc."

More about Dame de Montrose

Created in 1983 as a tribute to Yvonne Charmolüe (who ran Château Montrose solo from 1944 to 1960), La Dame de Montrose is the second wine of the estate—and it's not an afterthought. Supple, silky, built from the same vineyard with more restraint and accessibility. It accounts for 40-45% of the vineyard's production. Aged 12 months in 30% new oak. This is how a second label should work: as a genuine expression, not a leftover.
