Hardy Wallace and Matt Richardson started Dirty and Rowdy in 2010 to make hands-off California wines from grapes most producers ignore - and this Grenache from Brousseau Vineyard shows why they earned a cult following. The vineyard sits at 1,700 feet in the Chalone AVA, on a striking patchwork of limestone, granite and volcanic soils that gives high-elevation freshness and lift. Fermented with native yeasts and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is Grenache built for energy and perfume rather than weight. Production is small. A great pick if you like your reds bright, savory and a little wild.
