Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick are among the rising stars of the southern Cote de Nuits, farming organically and plowing some old-vine parcels with horses. 'Deslandes' is one of their named Cote de Nuits-Villages bottlings, each one a transparent expression of a specific patch of hard-limestone hillside. As with all their reds, this is restrained, energetic Pinot Noir made with light extraction and very little new oak, so the site speaks clearly. Expect savory red and dark fruit, a mineral backbone, and firm but fine tannins built for the cellar. Honest, ageworthy Burgundy from one of the region's most exciting young teams.
