Mark O'Connell is an American who arrived in Volnay and simply refused to leave — building Domaine Clos de la Chapelle into one of the appellation's most carefully considered small estates. Taillepieds is a premier cru on the upper slope of Volnay, on stony limestone soils that produce wines of real precision and tension. O'Connell's 2023 arrives in a vintage that delivered freshness and clarity across the Côte de Beaune, and his light-touch winemaking lets both the site and the vintage speak clearly. This is Volnay as a wine of place, made by a producer with the respect to step aside.
